Coldplay ... the modern day Beatles?

After the recent release of Coldplay's free live album last friday it almost seems like they have followed in the footsteps of their British compadres The Beatles. The way they make their simple riffs and cords and sound become absolutely amazing reminds me of The Beatles. Though with the mind that I have it could just be the coincidence that they are both British, but that is besides the point. There are many similarities between the two and the main one would be the success they both have had here in the states. It is close to impossible to get a Colplay ticket unless they are playing at a music festival as I would think would have been the case when The Beatles had all their success. Also Chris Martin reminds me of Paul McCartney with their solo work. The biggest and most seen coincidence would be that both these bands consist of four members. Now that I really think about it the one difference would be the time these bands were out and i can't think of any other difference. Do not get me wrong I feel these bands are very different but it is peculiar the similarities there are. I would love to hear a rebuttal to this blog please contact me somehow ... this would make me happy. In conclusion I think when the career of Coldplay finally slows down would could really compare the two better. Well, until next time I bid you ado.

  1. interesting comparison, but i don't know if i agree. your first was the amount of success that coldplay has had being similar to that of the beatles. while coldplay is really popular, it's with a completely different crowd of people. it's not a ridiculous full nation following. having trouble getting a ticket to a coldplay concert is no different than a 13 year old having trouble getting one to see the jonas brothers or hannah montana. but also since they aren't from the states. they don't tour here as often or as much here. the beatles only toured the US for about three months total. secondly, you reference chris martin's solo work. which i don't know about much that he has done unlike paul mccartney's massive influence and popularity of his solo work. this of course is probably because of the fact that coldplay is still alive and kicking, so i don't think you are going to see too much of chris martin/paul mccartney solo career comparison until much later. the difference between these bands goes beyond what time period they have been popular in but namely their widespread popularity with a large fan base of young to old, their style/type of music- the beatles are definately more rock pop allowing them to appeal to everyone (of course the beatles did try a bunch of different stuff a bit later with the pinnacle being sgt. pepper's lonely heart's club band) while coldplay not so much. i love coldplay but you can't say that about everyone. some people might love the single viva la vida but they won't necessarily like cemeteries of london. i do admit that coldplay has some good playage of pop stations with their singles...but it's not where their listeners main fan base lies. so they are both british yes. but both very different. i don't know when coldplay's career will slow down because they do push and try new things on their albums but its not a crazy reinvention, when coldplay starts sounding like the backstreet boys. but as for them having four members...so did 98 degrees. anyways those are just my thoughts! -akey

  2. The fact of the matter is, they ARE the modern day Beatles. They effect they have on people is absolutely amazing! Plus, they have NEVER made a bad song! They have over 100 songs that are untouchable when it comes down to musical talent! The Beatles were the start of the uproar (if you will) of British rock success. Coldplay is without a doubt the BEST British rock band to date! They ARE the modern day Beatles.

  3. I agree, I felt it myself, the similarity between Paul and Martin.
The song, ' And I Love Her ' has a pace quite close to Coldplay songs like Yellow, even the lyrics.
Talking about night and the stars.
